Up In The Clouds

It seems every magazine you pick up and everywhere you go, they are talking about clouds. The Cloud, Cloud Computing…what is all the hype about and why are we so interested in clouds?

What is the Cloud?
Simply put, the Cloud is another name for the Internet. Any business that uses the Internet to deliver software as a service (SaaS) to you is using the Cloud as its host. The software required sits in the Cloud and you are given access to it, usually by paying an access fee. Since there is no software to download and maintain, Cloud Solutions are a desirable choice for many businesses.

The PrinterOn Mobile Printing Solution is a Cloud Solution, that is to say it is hosted in a way that uses the Internet for submission, encryption and delivery of printed documents.

What is Cloud Printing?
Imagine being able to print any document from anywhere you are to anywhere you desire. This is Cloud Printing. The PrinterOn Mobile Printing Solution enables you to send and print documents from any smartphone, tablet or laptop to over 7000 PrinterOn print locations worldwide. Simply email your document to the printer – it’s that easy!

PrinterOn has cloud printing solutions for Enterprise, Education, Public Locations and Home users.

PrinterOn Enterprise for Education: Mobile Printing for Students

Secure mobile printing from any device, to any printer, on any network.

For students, technology is a part of life. Smartphones, tablets and laptops proliferate campuses all over the world. Printing from these devices in the past has been difficult or not possible at all. Campus IT policies add another level of difficulty as they don’t allow personal devices to connect to the secure network. PrinterOn Enterprise for Education provides a way for students to print from any device without having to connect to the network or download drivers.

PrinterOn Enterprise enables students and faculty to easily and securely print documents from laptops, tablets or smartphones to designated printers on campus, in the library, at residences or in labs, without having to connect to the network or download printer drivers. Students can print by uploading documents to an intranet web portal, or by emailing documents to a printer’s unique email address from any Wi-Fi or Internet connected device.

PrinterOn Enterprise is an On-Premise Cloud Solution which is deployed directly on-site. Software components are installed on campus servers and all processing and encryption of documents is done in the “Private Cloud.” This ensures data stays within the boundaries of your network, providing secure mobile printing for any campus.

Mobile Printing Movement is On Fire

In 2011, the mobile printing movement caught fire. Previously, mobile printing was primarily of interest to individual business travelers who wanted to print documents on the road and consumers with smartphones or tablets who wanted to print materials such as photos, directions, or receipts. Now, the demand for mobile printing has migrated into the enterprise and graphic-arts markets as the utilization of tablet computers and smartphones have become essential instruments that enable users to get work done.

In a recent survey, mobile workers were asked if they have printed from their smartphones or tablets. One-quarter of the respondents said they have printed from a tablet or phone. Almost half of the respondents said they have not printed from these devices but they expect to do so. Another quarter of the respondents have not printed from these devices but do not expect to do so.

Mobile Print Use and Future Plans Among Current Business Mobile Users

  • 46% -have not yet printed from a phone but expect to
  • 28% – have not printed and do not expect to
  • 23% – yes, have printed from a phone or tablet
  • 3% – not sure whether they can print or not

Mobile printing has been one of the most talked about trends in the imaging industry in 2011,” said Ann Priede, vice president of publications, Lyra Research. “Over the past year, Lyra’s The Hard Copy Observer has devoted significant coverage to this growing market as a result of its influence on the consumer, office, enterprise, and graphic-arts printing markets and its untapped potential.”

The Rise of the Mobile Workforce

Mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets are changing the way people work. No longer are we tied to the office for completing our tasks for the day. We can do almost everything from a smartphone or tablet. But what if you are out of the office and need to print?

Enter PrinterOn.

To give you an idea of how all of this works, let’s use the following example. John is an employee of ABC Company who has PrinterOn Enterprise deployed on-premise. John is on another floor of the office going into a meeting and decides to print out another document for his presentation. He sends an email with the document attached to the printer right outside the meeting room, enters his release code and prints out 10 copies.

John needs to be out of the office for a few days on a business trip. While he is at the airport he remembers he forgot to print a document for the meeting he will be going to first thing when he arrives at his destination. The airport has PrinterOn mobile printing in the lounge so he emails his document to the printer from his tablet, enters the release code and his document is printed.

After his meeting, he is invited out to lunch at a cafe with a client. John mentions the new product data sheets and the client says they would like to have a few hard copies for a meeting they will be going to that day. The cafe has the PrinterOn service so he uses the PrinterOn mobile printing app on his smartphone to search for the cafe printer.  He finds it and sends the document for printing.

When John gets home from his trip he decides to get a few things done before he has to go back into work the next day. John has the PrinterOn Home solution. Knowing he has an early meeting in the morning, he prints out the documents he will need for it on his home office printer from his smartphone by simply emailing the document to the unique email address of his home printer.

The PrinterOn Mobile Printing Solution enables users to print from any smartphone, tablet or laptop to any PrinterOn-enabled printer in the world. Our solutions span every major vertical and cover the Enterprise, Public and Home markets making PrinterOn the most complete mobile printing solution available.

Mobile Print is Taking Off!

St. Joseph Communications debuts its patent-pending mobile print kiosks at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport

With the proliferation of mobile devices in the marketplace, print is now shifting from a function being done at home and in the office to the mobile world. In response to this evolving trend, St. Joseph Communications, with support from HP and PrinterOn, has developed the world’s first self-service public pay kiosk offering consumers the ability to print directly from their smartphones and tablets.

“More than 19 per cent of the world’s cell phones are smartphones and this is expected to reach 50 per cent by Christmas,” says Tony Gagliano, Executive Chairman and CEO of St. Joseph Communications. “With the introduction of the ePrintit Kiosk, hundreds of millions of smartphone users worldwide can now quickly and conveniently print out their documents on the fly.”

The patent-pending ePrintit Kiosks allow consumers to print reports, presentations, photos, and more by downloading the HP ePrint service app to their smartphones. The Kiosks can also be securely emailed and can print from any memory device. They are equipped with St. Joseph’s proprietary developed monitoring software, a best-in-class HP colour laser printer, a Citizen dye-sublimation photo printer, online video camera, and 42” digital signage. The Kiosks also provide a North America-wide directory of all restaurants, hotels, attractions, and theatres and will print out maps to the locations as well as general mapping and driving directions for any location.

Mobile printing is not just the ability to print from a mobile device but also the ability to print when you are truly mobile – wherever life and business happens,” says Sridhar Solur, Director –Managed Enterprise Solutions, Imaging and Printing Group, HP. “Printer ubiquity is an absolute must to enable mobile printing and St. Joseph Communications is a strategic partner to build this network.”

St. Joseph is thrilled to announce that the Toronto Pearson International Airport is the location for the public debut of the ePrintit Kiosks. A total of eight kiosks have been installed in high-traffic areas throughout the airport and will be viewed by an average of 87,000 people per day.

Toronto Pearson is excited about the partnership with St. Joseph Communications that is allowing us to deliver more innovative services to our guests at the airport,” says Sergio Pulla, Senior Manager of Advertising and Partnerships, Greater Toronto Airports Authority. “We are always looking for new ways to delight our guests and we believe that mobile printing kiosks will allow business travellers to use the airport as an extension of their home and office as they wait for their flight.”
